Who We Are

LAWASCO operates under the authority of the Lamu County Government and is responsible for the supply and distribution of water for domestic, commercial, and industrial use. The organization provides residents of Lamu County with clean, safe, and potable water through the use of modern technologies, including desalination plants.

Access to safe and readily available water is essential for public health. Water is used for drinking, household activities, food production, industrial processes, and recreational purposes. Improving water supply and sanitation, as well as ensuring proper management of water resources, plays a significant role in promoting economic growth and reducing poverty within communities.

In 2010, the United Nations General Assembly formally recognized access to water and sanitation as a fundamental human right. Every person is entitled to sufficient, continuous, safe, acceptable, physically accessible, and affordable water for personal and domestic use.Water is vital for sustaining life. However, the amount of freshwater available on Earth is limited, and its quality is constantly threatened by pollution. Water sources can become contaminated by infectious microorganisms, toxic chemicals, and radiological substances, which can compromise water safety and pose serious risks to human health.
